Bulk landscape materials 101

Every great landscape starts from the ground up. Here's what to know about topsoil, mulch, stone and sand before your next project.

Topsoil
Nutrient-rich topsoil supports strong root growth in lawns, planting beds, and trees. It's also the go-to fix for filling low spots and finish grading before you lay new sod.
Shop topsoil

Mulch and compost
Mulch retains moisture, regulates soil temperature, and suppresses weeds, in a range of colours and textures to match your home. Pair it with organic compost to boost soil fertility, especially in our region's heavier clay soils.
Shop mulch and compost

Stone and gravel
Durable stone and gravel hold up to foot and vehicle traffic far better than mulch alone, making them ideal for pathways, driveways, and decorative accents that need to look sharp through wet coastal winters.

Sand
Often the most overlooked material, sand is essential for levelling paver bases, filling play areas, and a wide range of other landscaping applications where a stable, even surface matters.
Shop sand

How much material do you need?
All bulk materials are sold by the yard or cubic foot, so you only pay for what you use. As a rule of thumb, one cubic yard covers roughly 100 square feet at a 3-inch depth. Add about 10% to your estimate to account for settling, and our team can always help you calculate exact quantities before you buy.
